Time flies!

How did it go from "Monday, Monday" to Sunday, Sunday so quickly!?    Where does that time go?   And doesn't it seem to go faster the older one gets?!

A few things have really moved me the past few days so I would like to share them.  One is the beauty of music, especially being able to make your own.    I wouldn't call myself a great musician by any stretch of the word, but I do sing and play the guitar, and for the most part, people enjoy it when I do.  On Friday, it was my distinct pleasure to sing and play with a dear friend of mine.   We have played together for church, off and on for the past 20 years, and although it is always enjoyable, this Friday's practice touched me.   Everything just worked - the harmony, the strumming, the songs.   Lovely!

The second thing that touched me was being blessed to witness the maternal instincts of cows in person.   Ok...I know that may not sound very exciting to some, but so much that we take for granted or never slow down to observe or ponder is truly miraculous.   Yesterday evening, after a long day of sorting cattle in a mild snowstorm, I found a heifer who had not paired up with any calf even though I knew she had calved and her calf was alive and well.   We had moved the heifers to the official calving pen that morning and she was visibly unsettled come evening.  When I opened the gate, she walked out with a definite path and purpose.   I rode my horse a short distance behind so as to not excite her, but I did want to be sure everything was ok.   It was beautiful out there - a soft snow falling, no wind, the quiet of nature surrounding me - as I trailed behind this heifer for over a half mile.  She never wavered from her path, never hesitated...and then she lifted her head and bawled.   Immediately, a small black head popped up from it's bed of snowy grass and her pace quickened.  Though she had been moved from this pasture early that morning, she knew exactly where to find her calf and he had waited all day for her return.

Monday, Monday...

It is a cold one here in Wyoming this morning!   Sub-zero for certain, but hard to tell exactly how "sub-zero" as the outside thermometer refuses to register if it gets too cold!   I have to agree!!

Have been enjoying the Winter Olympics the past few days.  When I was growing up, the Olympics were the only time we were allowed to watch TV during the day so we took full advantage, but it quickly became a family tradition which I am still quite fond of.   Back then, we weren't competing in winter sports since they are rather non-existent in Tucson, but were definitely deeply involved in competitive swimming, running and equestrian events...so the Summer Olympics were our favorite.    It is truly a joy to share this tradition with my own children although they do look at me a bit cross-eyed when I start cheering loudly at the TV.  What can I say...I do love competition. :)

It's time

It is time to do this...really do this.   It is in my heart to blog, but I put it off.   I think I have tried to box myself in by claiming I will be writing only about ranching or only about homeschooling or only about...   But my life isn't like that!  It isn't that narrow and when my heart and mind are absorbed with training for my next triathlon, I don't really want to write about baling alfalfa!

So my new resolution (I know it is way past January, but I tend to march to my own drummer!) is to write about what is happening NOW, what is on my heart today.

We'll see how it goes...
Blessings!
